Sally Smith of Deep Earth Ceramics creates her stunning pieces with very earthy and tactile Australian stoneware, right here in Fremantle. Her work is all hand thrown, fired twice; bisque and glazed and comes from a place of emotional authenticity, bringing life to her work. Sally doesn’t aim for conventional perfection, instead allowing the natural form and beauty to shine through. Each piece is completely unique due to the handmade nature of Sally’s work, combined with the magic that happens during the firing process. The pieces shift and change, at times the forms become irregular taking on a new organic quality of their own.
Sally studied Art & Design for 3 years, majoring in Studio Ceramics for 3 years. She attributes her growth and knowledge to this period of many hours of hard work and exploration. She now works from her garden studio in Fremantle, with her constant companions always by her side; her two Dachshunds Pixie and Dylan.
