Borneo is an island divided among three countries Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. It contains one of the oldest rainforests in the world and is one the last remaining natural habitats for the orangutan. The population in Borneo mainly consists of indigenous groups. The weaving of rattan is a cultural tradition in Borneo that has been passed down for centuries. Women typically weave while socializing with their tribe members. The rattan is both flexible and durable and has many uses in everyday life in Borneo.
The price of this bag includes a tax applied to the rattan, taken by the Indonesian Government to preserve and replant the forest of Borneo.
